European Mental Health Week is an important reminder that mental and physical health are closely connected, and that includes oral health. Stress, anxiety, depression and other mental health challenges can all have an impact on our mouths, teeth and gums. At the same time, poor oral health can affect confidence, self-esteem and overall wellbeing.

When people are struggling with their mental health, everyday routines such as brushing twice a day, eating well or attending dental appointments can become more difficult. Some medications may also cause dry mouth, increasing the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. That’s why it’s important to support people with practical, accessible information that recognises the connection between mental and oral health.

Our Keeping Oral Health in Mind information postcard was developed to help raise awareness of the simple steps people can take to protect their oral health during difficult times. The postcard includes easy-to-follow tips and signposts to further support.

The resource is available free of charge and can be ordered for workplaces, healthcare settings, community groups and events, or downloaded directly from our website.
